Sustainability: from ingredients to packaging & shipping

Sustainability: from ingredients to packaging & shipping

How we are trying to be environmentally friendly.

The environment is important to us, so we do what we can to reduce our overall environmental footprint for our products, packaging and shipping materials. Every little bit helps. We don’t need a few people doing a lot, we need everyone doing a little.

Did you know that the amount of plastic packaging on US products (including beauty products and personal care items) has increased over 120 times since 1960 – with almost 70 percent of that waste piling up in landfills?[1] That is nuts! And we want to do our part so we don’t add more plastic to the landfills, so here is what we do...

For our Products:

We always try to select ingredients that are sustainably sourced, organically grown or at least grown with organic growing practices, and we include as many fair-trade ingredients as possible. Unfortunately, it’s not always possible to find organic or fair-trade ingredients for what we need, but we do search them out and use the cleanest ingredients we can find. We are continually sourcing ingredients and hope to be 100% organic and fair trade as soon as possible.

For our Product Packaging:

We ONLY use glass containers (bottles and jars) for all our tinctures, body oil, facial serums, hydrosols, facial oils, salves and powders. They are fully recyclable, and you can compost the lids as they are made from bamboo. The only part that isn’t recyclable is the pump and spray section of the bottles. We are working on figuring out a way to have this part recycled as well. The bottles with the spray or pump, can also be repurposed for other uses for any homemade items, like a window cleaner, vinegar-based cleansers, body care products, etc. They are beautiful bottles. We are working to find bottles made from recycled glass but so far, we have not been able to find them.

The boxes for our products are 100% recyclable.

We don’t use plastic for any of our product containers. Most of our products include oils. Oils are a high fatty content substance and plastic ingredients can easily leach into this type of substance from a plastic container. We want to avoid this at all costs so the plastic chemicals don’t get into the product and into your body. Plus, we don’t want to use plastics for their negative environmental impact. So, we ONLY use glass for our products when we need a bottle or jar. It’s safer for you and better for the planet.

Shipping materials:

We are thrilled to have partnered with EcoEnclose for all our shipping needs. All of our shipping materials are made from 100% post-consumer recycled materials and can be recycled again, composted or reused.

We ship in recycled boxes that are inserted into recycled mailers. Both can be used again, which is common for boxes, but the mailers can be used again as well to ship something to someone else and then recycled.

Please be aware as you open the mailer with your order, to open it at the perforation so you can reuse it. Once it is opened you will see that there is another sealing strip so the mailer can be used again. Simply remove the Qi Botanic Sticker and address it to whomever for another posting. Then just make sure they recycle it once they receive it in the mail.

Our padding used for shipping is 100% recycled paper.

There are prettier ways to ship for sure, but since all the shipping materials are going to be disposed of right away, it doesn’t make sense to not use recycled shipping materials. We want the products to be properly protected and can easily achieve that with recycle shipping materials.

So, please keep all of this in mind when you are opening your products. Our products arrive to you looking they way they do for a reason… it is all totally intentional!

We hope you will help us in our ongoing efforts to support sustainability by recycling and/or composting the product containers and shipping materials. It’s good for the planet and the people on it.
