What is Facial Gua Sha?
Pronounced gwa sha, is a facial treatment that has been around for years but is now gaining more popularity. Traditional Gua sha has been used in TCM for thousands of years, although mostly used on the body. Facial Gua Sha involves scraping/sliding a flat stone over the skin in gentle upward strokes to relax tense muscles, tighten and tone the skin, and promote tissue drainage. Facial Gua Sha, uses a MUCH gentler touch than normal body Gua Sha and will NOT cause any marks on the skin. It can be done at home and is easily integrated into any beauty practice.
What are the benefits of Facial Gua Sha?
Gua Sha treatments can relax the muscles, get the energy and blood moving so more nutrients are brought to the area, boost circulation to activate toxin removal, help to gently tone and sculpt the face, and move lymphatic fluids which can reduce puffiness. All of these benefits lead to a healthier and happier complexion. Facial Gua Sha is a great way to soften fine lines and wrinkles, reduce dark circles and puffiness, and brighten the skin for a healthy, vibrant glow.
How do you use the Qi Facial Gua Sha Board?
There are many ways to use a Gua Sha board but here is a quick video to get you started.
A quick note, make sure to have a bit of facial oil on your face for a smooth glide, hold your Gua Sha board at a 15 to 20 degree angle, and be gentle!

Does Facial Gua Sha hurt or leave marks?
No! It is super relaxing and doesn’t leave any marks. A lot of people have seen pictures of body Gua Sha where there are markings on the body after treatment, but facial Gua Sha isn’t like this at all! There is absolutely no pain or markings, just bliss and relaxation… and some seriously glowing skin.
How often should I do facial Gua Sha?
We recommend doing it daily, but even with only doing it 2 to 3 times a week, your face will see the benefits and your skin will love it. If you are adding Facial Gua Sha to combat stagnant lymph or to decrease puffiness, then do it in the morning. If you are doing it to relax tense or tight muscles which will help to soften wrinkles, then nighttime is best. Not sure?. You can alternate them as well, the most important thing is to be consistent.
Who shouldn’t do facial gua sha?
We don’t recommend doing Gua Sha directly over areas of breakouts or cystic acne areas. Gua sha around those areas, just not over them.
