Body Gua Sha FAQ's

If you don't see the answer to your question, get in touch with us at customer service.

What is Gua Sha?

It’s pronounced gwa sha and it’s been used successfully in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for thousands of years to treat tight and sore muscles, fascia and pain.  Gua Sha involves scraping and sliding a flat stone over the skin to soothe and relax tense fascia and muscles, promote tissue drainage and stagnation, and increasing circulation to specific areas on the body.

How does Gua Sha help with cellulite?

Body Gua Sha is a great way to relax and support the fascia. Fascia can adhere to the muscle and cause pain, but it can also adhere to the skin and cause visible dimples, aka: cellulite. When stimulation is applied with a Gua Sha board it can help to break up these adhesions and allow for a healthy circulation to the area, leading to a smoother appearance. Thus the Qi Body Gua Sha board can help to relax and improve the appearance of cellulite.

Should it Gua Sha hurt or leave marks?

No, Gua Sha should never hurt or leave any marks.  If you are having pain or seeing any marks during or after treatment, lighten up!

How to use Body Gua Sha for cellulite?

The Qi Body Gua Sha board has been designed for spot treatment on specific areas as needed.  However, we always recommend starting with at least a short dry brushing session to stimulate the circulation of the entire body before starting Gua Sha on the body.  If you are targeting the thighs, buttocks and hips as an example, begin by starting below the area around the knees and working your way up and just past the area of issue, with firm fluid strokes with the Gua Sha board, making sure to cover the entire area. Make sure to use your favorite body oil so the Gua Sha board glides easily on the skin.  It is normal for the area to be slightly pink afterwards, but the skin should NOT be marked.  The board should be held at a 45-degree angle using firm but not painful pressure.

How often should I be doing Body Gua Sha or Body Cupping for cellulite?

We recommend doing either Body Gua Sha or Body Cupping at least 3 times a week for the best results.  They can also be alternated daily as well.

Can multiple therapies be combined for even better results?

Yes!  We encourage people to use Body Brushing, Body Gua Sha and Body Cupping together on a regular basis.  A wonderful combination is to start with Dry Brushing, then hop into the shower.  After the shower, put on your favorite body oil and perform either a Body Gua Sha Session or a Body Cupping Session, they alternate beautifully as each does something a little different and can work wonders together for a smoother and shapelier body.
